A tribute to my favourite superhero – Supergirl.
I finally received my Supergirl custom Funko Pop and absolutely love it!
It was a really tough call if I wanted to get a custom Funko Pop! done. I finally decided to do it, and found an artist, Lindsey, on Etsy. Her store was called LFCustomPops, but is no longer available. Right from sending the commission request to product shipping, it took about two months. She’s really friendly, very helpful and was a pleasure to deal with. If you ever would like to get some custom Pops done, I highly recommend you check out her work.
The date of this post is no coincidence either. It is, in fact, Supergirl’s birthday today. Fun fact: it also happens to be the birthday of Canadian actress Laura Vandervoort, who played Supergirl on Smallville.
Supergirl’s real name is Kara Zor-El and with her first appearance in 1959. In the comics, she goes by an alias “Linda Danvers”. Throughout the time, Supergirl has had a number of different costumes, you can see some of them below. Some come directly from the comics, others come from TV series (like Smallville), and cartoons (like Justice League). My favourite costume, by far, is the Turner costume (2nd from the right). Named after the artist Michael Turner, this costume was Supergirl’s costume during the 2005 comic run, and featured a total of 68 comic books.
In fact, I like the Turner costume so much that I could not resist buying a vinyl figurine of Supergirl in that costume. It is made by a company called Kotobukiya. They specialize in making figures of comic book and movie characters. They make some really high-quality vinyl figurines and this one’s no different.
There is also a new Supergirl series coming out that will start airing next month, and yes, I am looking forward to watching it. I have watched the Pilot, and the actress, Melissa Benoist, seems to have done a good job in capturing the Supergirl’s character.
So, why is she my favourite superhero? You can find out here. Let’s just say that I can relate to her as a character. She possesses certain character traits that I look for in friends and colleagues.
So, a big Happy Birthday, Supergirl, and welcome to Dubai, from a big fan!
